Acivicin is an antibiotic that inhibits γ-glutamyl transpeptidase (γ-GT), an enzyme involved in transferring g-glutamyl groups in the cell membranes of kidneys, heart, brain, and pancreas. Acivicin is a potent antitumor agent that induces apoptosis in human lymphoblastoid cells. Also displays antimicrobial activities.
